Geopolitical stress
Real-time news flow analysis and stress tracking
After a period of caution yesterday, the geopolitical stress gauge has returned to a normal level of 54 today, marking its first day of quiet.
The gauge is currently near a typical day of 50, and very little news has moved it over the last few hours.
How the Gauge Works
Flightdeck reads finance news every minute and turns it into 0-100 gauges. A value of 50 represents a typical day, 60 indicates caution, and 80 warns of high stress. Each gauge rises on news that pushes its topic up and falls on news that pushes it the other way.
To measure geopolitical stress, every incoming headline is put through three yes/no questions answered by our classification model. The answers are probabilities between 0 and 1. The gauge has a half-life of 8 hours, meaning older news naturally fades unless sustained by fresh headlines.
